International mobile software solutions provider, Totalmobile has today (25th March 2013) announced a campaign to support healthcare professionals spend more time with patients and less on administration and travel by adopting new mobile technologies.

The campaign will support the NHS Institute of Innovation and Improvement’s Time To Care  (RTTC) scheme, part of the Productive Ward initiative, with TotalMobile delivering a series of workshops around the UK. The half-day sessions will focus on how mobile working can improve the patient experience and safety, in addition to the efficiency of care, all of which are objectives within the RTTC scheme.

Another key element to RTTC is the vision to improve working practice and processes, closely linked to mobile working, with the ability to work anywhere at anytime from a mobile device. The benefits of this approach have been demonstrated by the Department of Health’s recent National Mobile Health Worker Project which reported an increase of more than 100% in contact activity and time spent with patients, a reduction of 33% in time spent travelling and a fall in the number of ‘No Access’ visits of up to 50%.

The series of workshops launches on 28th March at the Royal College of Physicians, Regents Park, London with the college’s Health Informatics Unit programme manager, Jan Hoogewerf leading a discussion on mobile working. A second workshop will take place at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh on 30th April, with many more planned throughout the year.

Colin Reid, CEO of TotalMobile Ltd, commented: “Through these workshops we’re looking to support healthcare professionals in meeting one of the fundamental challenges across the NHS: improving and increasing patient contact. We’re aiming to pass our technical knowledge onto healthcare staff, who, by learning about the mobile tools available, will identify opportunities for more fulfilling and productive health working, contributing to a more efficient healthcare service.”

Attendees will see examples of how mobile working has streamlined routine tasks and improved working environments in user cases, before taking part in an interactive live demonstration of Totalmobile’s App Platform. The platform allows users to update patient information and record medical tasks at the point of patient contact.

The solution draws information from multiple systems to a mobile device, to allow users to reduce their time on administrative tasks and travelling, spending more time on patient-related activity across acute, mental health and community services.

NHS staff interested in attending a Totalmobile Time to Care workshop should call 02890 330111 or email health@totalmobile.co.uk to book their place.

Totalmobile will be exhibiting at HC2013 on the 16th/17th April at the ICC, Birmingham. Delegates are invited to visit stand 18 to find out more information about Totalmobile’s App Platform and on to Theatre Two on 17th, 2pm, to hear Mobile Health Consultant Brian Murray deliver his presentation called ‘Why call it mobile working, it’s just working – right?’.
