On Wednesday 17th July, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Department for Employment & Learning, Catherine Bell visited TotalMobile’s Belfast Headquarters to meet with the team and their 3 apprentices and discuss the company’s involvement in the ICT Apprenticeship scheme. In August 2012, TotalMobile signed up to the ICTApprenticeship Programme.
The joint initiative between Department for Employment & Learning and local ICTcompanies aims to support the growth and expansion of the sector by recruiting apprentices in various software development and IT infrastructure roles. TotalMobile took on 3 apprentices in November. Harry Campbell joined the integration team as an Apprentice Software Developer while Aimee Jenkins and Sarah McLaughlin took on roles as Apprentice Support Developers. Catherine Bell was joined by June Ingram; Director of Skills and Industry Division and Graeme Belshaw; Skills Policy Branch. The visitors met with Chief Executive Colin Reid and Chief Operating Officer Malcolm Thompson who gave a company overview and explained why TotalMobile wanted to get involved in the apprenticeship scheme. The visitors were then introduced to the 3 apprentices; Sarah, Harry and Aimee and their managers John Mills and Mandy Reid. The apprentices discussed their roles and experiences with the programme and working at TotalMobile. Malcolm Thompson said “We felt it was important to take part in this programme as part of our ongoing commitment to nurturing IT skills in Northern Ireland. We’ve been delighted with the apprentices’ progress so far. It was a pleasure to have Catherine Bell and other DEL representatives visit the office and talk about the success of this initiative.”
