Why Mobile Working is a Necessity for your Workforce

Why Mobile Working is a Necessity for your Workforce

Today the rise of the mobile worker is on the increase and will only continue to grow.  According to the Global Mobile Workforce Forecast Update, the global mobile workforce is expected to rise from the current 1.45 billion to 1.87 billion by 2022. With advancements in smart technology and access to various communication methods, the need for employees to be desk bound is no longer necessary. With an increasingly diverse range of field service and mobile job roles available, the evolution of the mobile worker is now more prevalent than before. Organisations today need to incorporate a modern approach to flexible, mobile working.

Why is mobile working a necessity today?

Mobile working ensures your workforce can communicate effectively throughout the day both with colleagues and customers. With access to a range of communication methods, mobile working provides an enhanced customer service experience. Employees can stay in contact with customers, making them aware if any issues arise, for example if they are running late for an appointment, as well as allowing them to continuously stay in touch with office-based staff.

Access to mobile applications or remote working enables staff to have 24/7, immediate retrieval to all the information they would have if they were based in the office. Without this, staff may not be able to carry out their job responsibilities effectively and it could delay responses to important queries such as responding to urgent emails or sharing information with colleagues. By implementing mobile working, organisations are empowering their employees to be more productive rather than restricting them. It gives employees the freedom and flexibility to enjoy a positive work life balance, whilst allowing them to easily collaborate securely whilst out on the road or in the comfort of their own home.

Additionally, staff can benefit from a reduction in travel time and costs. Remote working enables employees to reduce their daily commute, with accessibility to clever map routing functions, mobile workers can access appointments from the most efficient routes. Businesses can also benefit from a reduction in estate costs with fewer desks being used and by introducing a hot desk policy for employees to use as and when they need to.

With readily access to information on their mobile device, staff also save time on administration, no longer having to complete cumbersome and time-consuming paperwork. Without the implementation of mobile workforce management solutions, employees would not have as much capacity to complete their workload and with manual processes taking up too much time and without access to stay in touch, customers may not be satisfied.

Adapting a flexible working approach

However, that’s not to say mobile working doesn’t have its own pressures, which businesses and their workforce face. Mobile working can increase the focus on staff to work more effectively and efficiently. With access to emails, mobile phones and instant chat applications outside of the office, staff may feel they are constantly under obligation to answer to customer queries or emails from colleagues past their normal working hours. However, with the flexibility of mobile working, organisations nowadays encourage employees to fit their workload around their own schedule.
